Pithubar College, Khowang – A Legacy of Education and Empowerment
Established on 9th August 1989, Pithubar College, Khowang stands as a beacon of knowledge, dedicated to providing quality higher education to students from underprivileged and socially marginalized communities, particularly those from tea garden backgrounds. Affiliated to Dibrugarh University and recognized under UGC 12(B) in 2018, the college was provincialized in 2013, solidifying its commitment to academic excellence and social upliftment.
Nestled in the heart of Khowang Chariali, within the Moran Legislative Assembly Constituency of Dibrugarh District, the college serves a diverse student body, including tea garden workers, scheduled tribes, other backward classes, and economically disadvantaged groups. It is more than just an institution; it is a pillar of hope and transformation for the region.
A History Rooted in Generosity and Vision
The college derives its name from Pithubar Saikia, a revered social worker, educationist, philanthropist and the owner of Duliabam Tea Estate, who generously donated the land for its establishment. Originally founded as Pithubar Girls’ Educational Institution, it was later renamed Pithubar Girls’ Degree College upon affiliation to Dibrugarh University. In 2024, the institution embraced a new era of inclusivity and growth, becoming Pithubar College, opening its doors to both male and female students in the 2024–25 academic session.
